Is Going To Church Enough? How well do you know the Bible? How much have you really studied God's Word? Someone answers, "Well, I go to church almost every Sunday". But that is not what I asked. "Going to church" is not the same as carefully studying and knowing the Book. Let me give you an example. We all send our children to school. Suppose you know that your child is going to have a history test on Friday. You ask your student, "Are you ready for your test this Friday?" Your child says, "Dad, I go to school every day." But you know from your own personal experience that going to school does not guarantee good grades. Most children go to school every day, but after the exam is given some will get A's, some B's, some C's, and some will fail. Going to school is a start, but the outcome of the exam will be determined by how carefully they apply themselves to a diligent study of the material. The same is true spiritually.Paul wrote, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15). It is not enough to just go to church. We need to give diligence to know God's Word and learn to handle it accurately. In the Old Testament, the prophet Hosea wrote, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being my priest. Since you have forgotten the law of our God, I also will forget your children" (Hosea 4:6). God rejected His people Israel, and removed them from the land of promise because of their ignorance of, and their disobedience to His revealed will. This is a sober warning for us today. No, going to church is not enough. The great God of heaven demands more. He demands that we know His will and that we seek to live it in our lives.Study God's Word carefully "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God".
