The Good Part (Mary's Good Choice) In Luke 10:38-42 we find recorded the story of Mary and Martha. These two sisters, along with Lazarus their brother, were close friends and disciples of Jesus. On this occasion, Jesus had cometo the home of Martha and Mary where he was treated to Marthas splendid hospitality. The text says that Martha was cumbered about with much serving, that is, she was burdened distracted busy preparing the meal for the Lord. But her sister Mary was sitting quietly at the feet of Jesus listening to His words of life. Martha was displeased with lack of help that she was receiving from her sister, and she approached Jesus looking for support. Lord, dost thou not care that my sister did leave me to serve alone (vs. 40). But Jesus answered, Martha, Martha, thou art anxious and troubled about many things; but one thing is needful; for Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her (vss. 41-42). Jesus was teaching Martha a very important lesson. There is something more important than the physical side of man.Martha was anxious with preparing the meal. Martha was not a bad person. She was not involved in wicked or sinful activities. She was a good woman, and her only desire was to serve and please the Lord. But she got her priorities out of whack.Mary had chosen the spiritual. She had made the better choice. She had chosen to listen to the words of Jesus the spiritual bread which leads to eternal life which could never be taken away from her. We all make choices in our lives. Which part have you chosen? Have you chosen the physical or the spiritual? Choose now to be a more careful student of the Word of God.
