Desiring The Word of God What is the one thing that every baby craves? The answer is simple. Milk. The infant is born with the desire to eat, and milk is his food supply. Those who have been around infants know that babies constantly demand to be fed. No one has to tell a baby to eat. No one has to force-feed an infant. And as long as we supply their desires, they will grow. What a perfect picture of the Christian. Peter wrote, "Like new born babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation" (1 Peter2:2). We are to be just as desirous of God's Word as a newborn infant desires milk. This desire should be a daily hunger, just as consistent as the infant's desire for food. And what a blessing to know that we have the promise that our hunger will be completely satisfied that if we go to the right source for spiritual nourishment. Our Lord Jesus promised, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled" (Matthew 5:6). Learning the Word of God and then living a righteous life does not come by accident. It comes by constantly searching and hungering after God's will and then putting His will to work in our lives. That is how, as the verse says, you "grow in respect to salvation". We don't study the Bible for purely academic reasons. We don't study to simply pass an exam, as if we were back in high school. Nor do we learn for the purpose of showing off - to let folks know how much we know. We learn so we can please our Maker and glorify Him by our lives. "Even so let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). We pray that you will have a strong desire to know the will of God. And we hope that you will take advantage of the articles and Bible study materials on this web site to help you grow in your knowledge of God's will. Remember, God's Word is the Truth. The articles of this web site are an honest attempt to help you to understand the Bible. But if we err, please let us know. We desire an open dialogue concerning these important principles. Write us.Challenge us. "Come now and let us reason together" (Isaiah 1:18). Send this to a friend (Return to Article selection Page) |
